PF940C or PF940v2: compact or full-size for a first Polymer80 build
These are the two frames most first builds start with, and the choice is the same one as buying a Glock 19 or a Glock 17.
PF940C, the compact
Gen 3 G19, G23 and G32 slides. 15-round magazines. The grip is short enough to carry and long enough for a full hand for most people. Aftermarket slide choice is the widest of any model.
PF940v2, the full-size
Gen 3 G17, G22, G24, G31, G34 and G35 slides. 17-round magazines. A longer sight radius and a full grip; better for range and competition builds, harder to conceal. Version 2 has a flared magwell and a stiffer frame than the original PF940.
Finishing
Same three cuts, same jig design, same tools. Neither is easier.
Magazines cross over
A PF940C runs G17 magazines with the extra length exposed. A PF940v2 does not run G19 magazines. If you might build both, start with the compact and buy G17 magazines.
Decide
Carry or a first pistol: PF940C. Range gun, competition, or you already own a G17 slide: PF940v2.
